Hey There!
I'm Jaimie Colbert and I am the owner and sole occupational therapist at Spring Forward OT, LLC. I graduated with my Masters of Science in OT from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where I grew up. I have now been an OT for over 10 years and have been working in Omaha, NE and surrounding counties in Iowa since 2016 after moving here from Pittsburgh. Occupational therapy has been a passion of mine since high school when I fell in love with the concept of helping people do the day to day activities that matter most to them. I loved the mix of science and medicine with creativity and individuality. Years later I have worked in a variety of settings, ranging from neuro outpatient programs, to Skilled Nursing facilities, and even to pediatric school settings. Regardless of setting, one thing is common, I adore the focus on the day to day activities that matter most to each person.

My own healing
After working about 4 years, I found myself facing multiple feet fractures and surgeries. A bone birth defect in both feet, something I knew existed but had been told would be harmless, turned out to be a bigger hassle than imagined. Through the course of 2.5 years, I broke my feet 3 times and had 6 surgeries, ultimately to reconstruct the bone structure of my feet and ankles.

I spent months on and off of crutches, using my therapy experience to explore and adapt to life on one foot. This time highlighted to me how important OT really is because I couldn't just sit around on my couch healing for 2.5 years. I still needed to find ways to earn money, clean my then apartment, and enjoy hobbies (yes, even getting to the beach and posting a picture of my boots in the sand as proof!).

From my injury grew passion.
I have always been passionate about occupational therapy but my experiences over 2 and a half years lead me to a new passion to fill in the gaps of therapy as we know it. We need to focus in the natural environment and support both before and after a medical procedure. People deserve more options, more well rounded services and more prevention alongside their rehab.
After returning to work, my experience has infused all aspects of care. I have even helped train family members (see left) before upcoming procedures. Today, my experiences help to fuel Spring Forward OT to push boundaries in healthcare routines and allow OT to grow back to its roots….combining what is important to you with the environment you live in.

In addition to my degrees, I maintain my OT board certification through a variety of ongoing continuing education opportunities. I have also participated in a few more intensive trainings, including become Physical Agent Modality certified (PAMS) and becoming a Certified Living in Place Specialist (CLIPP).
I have also completed my Executive Certification in Home Modifications (ECHM). The ECHM is a 5 course program offered to professionals to dive deeper into home modifications and adaptations. I intend to use this knowledge to supplement my services when working with individuals who would like to Live in Place.

I have preached about the importance of "occupations" and looking at what is important and meaningful to someone, and so here are a few of my "occupations" when I am not working as an OT...
-
Playing with these 2 fluffy goofballs who just want to love on everyone (I couldn't resist making sure they had an appearance on this site!).
